01The brief

Two 28 m girders for a new press hall

A new 400 t press hall needed two overhead cranes, and the crane builder needed the girders fabricated to EN 1090 EXC3 in time for the hall's steel erection.

We built both box girders and their end carriages in our 60 m bay, stress relieved the end carriages and machined the wheel seats after welding. Every weld went on a numbered weld map with UT results for all full-penetration joints.

02What we did

Fabricated, relieved, machined, coated

  • Welded two 28 m box girders by coded welders to an EXC3 procedure
  • Stress relieved the end carriages before machining the wheel seats
  • Tested all full-penetration welds by UT and recorded them on the weld map
  • Blasted to SA 2½ and coated to C4 in our own bay

“The girders arrived coated, marked and with a weld map we could hand straight to the notified body.”
