Most casting standards allow repair welding of defects found after shake-out. It is quicker than re-pouring, and on paper the part is just as good.
In practice a repair weld is a different material in the middle of a casting. It has its own heat-affected zone, it needs its own heat treatment and it shows up on every ultrasonic scan for the life of the part.
So unless you approve a repair in writing, we scrap the casting, correct the pattern or the gating, and pour it again.
