Induction or arc: choosing a melt route for small-batch alloys

For batches between 50 kg and 12 t, our four induction furnaces give us tighter chemistry and less oxidation loss than an arc route. The trade-off is refining: an induction furnace melts what you charge it with.

When induction wins

Clean, sorted scrap and virgin alloys, grades such as 42CrMo4 with narrow chromium and molybdenum windows, and short runs where changeover time matters.

When we send a heat elsewhere

Very low sulphur or phosphorus limits, or pour weights above 12 t. In those cases we buy ingots from a partner arc shop and forge or machine them here.
