It is quicker than re-pouring, and on paper the part is just as good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In practice a repair weld is a different material in the middle of a casting. It has its own heat-affected zone, it needs its own heat treatment and it shows up on every ultrasonic scan for the life of the part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So unless you approve a repair in writing, we scrap the casting, correct the pattern or the gating, and pour it again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Repair welding a casting is allowed by most standards.
